Über sein Schmuckstück ‘Bird no.1’ sagt der Künstler Yotam Bahat: »The hands are a central motif in my works, hands touch the space, the touch becomes an invitation, the invitation becomes a union. The pendant was made with a ‘multi casting’ technique: since the base material of the piece is aluminium, a material with a low melting point, that doesn’t allow classic soldering, all the moving hands and legs were cast in one shot. The moving parts initially were connected to the main body and to the casting tree. After casting, they were cut out to allow for movement. All parts were made that way, as one metaphorical body, without ‘glue’. Similarly, the ‘eyes’, a marquise cubic zirconia, were set into the body in the waxing process and were cast together with all other parts of the body.«
